My name is David Kalergis and I am a licensed therapist who specializes in working with children and their families. I operate LowCountry Family & Children, a private practice based in Charleston, SC.

The sudden disruptions and challenges that have come crashing into our lives due to COVID-19 can feel very scary and overwhelming.  A constant influx of news and information, both factual and inaccurate, is resulting in many of us feeling a loss of control as uncertainty weighs down on us. Over the past 15 years, my passion has been to help children and adults thrive by reaching their personal, academic, behavioral, and family-oriented goals. I take pride in the person-centered, trust-based relationships I develop with the families that come into my care.

As we all work together to implement and spread awareness of social distancing, effective March 16, I will be providing my counseling sessions through the HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform.  Through secure, encrypted internet-based audio and video, as well as a “shared screen” function, each live session with an individual or family group is specifically tailored to address the challenges and uncertainties that both children and adults are facing as we all prepare to spend an extended, unknown amount of time in our homes. These services are available to families nationwide.

In addition to my normal counseling services, my newly created sessions will cover:

  • Age appropriate information regarding COVID-19
  • Fun and easy ways to practice good hygiene and social distancing
  • Coping skills to help keep our minds busy and encourage positive attitudes
  • Parenting skills to help adult caregivers balance the demands of working from home, homeschooling children, and setting boundaries – all while finding time for fun and self-care!
  • Helping you and your child develop greater emotional IQ to be better equipped to face the many beatable challenges that are headed our way

You will find that I am an approachable and caring therapist, who also takes pride in being direct and candid with my clients.  As serious as these times are, I always make sure that the children I work with are having fun and enjoying the process of therapy and learning!  If you would like to learn more, set up a session, or speak with me directly please reach out via email.  Thank you and I look forward to the opportunity to connect with you.  For more free information please make sure to follow me on Instagram @lowcountryfamilychildren and on Facebook www.facebook.com/lowcountryfc

Licensed Therapist

Specializing in children and teens

Therapy for Children in Mt. Pleasant

I believe every child and parent has inherent strengths. My counseling approach brings this back into focus. There aren’t “bad kids” or “bad parents,” but there are circumstances that can reinforce or bring out unwanted behaviors and responses. It’s easy to get caught up in noticing the things that aren’t working, and to minimize or forget what is going well.

Therapy for Teens in Mt. Pleasant

Teenage years can be rough on parents and teens alike. It’s not uncommon for adolescents to feel out of place, depressed, irritable and/or anxious. Parents and teens may struggle to communicate. Even though teens love to say things are “fine,” a lot of the time they aren’t.

So yes, my site talks a lot about kids and teens, and even my practice’s name is centered around “Family and Children”, but I love to work with adults as well.

As an adult, if you choose to work with me, you’ll see I come from a supportive place to help uncover why things aren’t working the way you want them to work, and how to make things better.

My fee is $130 for a 55-minute session.  I have a sliding scale of $115 for a 45-minute session for client’s experiencing financial hardship.  I also offer a military discount to the children and families of active duty service members, and veterans.  I accept payment by cash, check, or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover)
